Writing Fantasy

I think I'm finally going to start writing something. I think I could write a real life sort of story easily, because I can put out real life situations fast and clear. But I've always loved reading fantasy stories because of the freedom and dreaming up your own, perfect world.

How many of you write fantasy? Any books you can recommend?

I just started it today. I forgot how addicting writing is to me. I'm just lost in my own little world typing away!

I love fantasy! I like to read anything by these authors: Terry Brooks and Terry Goodkind.

I am also a sci fi fan -- primarily STAR WARS books.

I've saw some Terry Brooks books and thought they looked interesting. What titles would you recommend?

With Terry Brooks, two good places to start I think would be the Sword of Shannar series and the Knight of the Word series. Basically, I recommend the chronological order in which the books of each series were written. I think he tries to write them all in order as they "happened" according the stories' timelines as well.

The Sword of Shannar is more traditional fantasy with elves, gnomes, trolls, Druids, witches and such, while Knight of the Word has more or less a modern fantasy environment - dealing with things happening in secret and invisible to the general populous.

Hint: eventually, if you follow both series in order, you will come to a time when you realize that Terry Brooks is going to tie the two fantasy worlds to each other in some way.

That being said, there are sort of a series of series beginning with the Sword so Shannara series. That fantasy world is quite a bit longer than the Kinght of the Word series' world.

I guess I did not specifically answer "Which title would you recommend?" by Terry Brooks, because I like them all so much and it is best to start with the earlier works and read in order, since they are all tied together in different ways.
